On May 10th, 2006 RATH Refractories, Inc. Celebrated the grand opening of its brand new, state-of-the-art,
facility. The Plant is located at the top of a hill overlooking highway 22, on the North West side of Milledgeville
It is conveniently located, just a couple of miles from highways 441, 212, and 49.
According to Dana Ford, a writer for The Union-Recorder, (Milledgeville's major news paper) "About 100
people turned out to watch the ribbon cutting ceremony... Besides employees of the plant, area officials, and
friends and family, the ceremony was attended by Dr. Ernst Rath, chief executive officer of the company.
Following the ceremony, attendees were invited inside for a barbecue lunch and a look at the manufacturing
plant."
“Welcome to the city of Milledgeville,” said Mayor Richard Bentley to the people who gathered for lunch.
“This is a testament, here, to what Milledgeville can be ... It’s also a testament to the fabric of our community,”
Bentley said about the opening of the plant.
Mr. Ed Kirkland, Plant Manager said " no one could possible be prouder and more excited than me of our
accomplishments, except maybe our employees. Many of our *employees actually took jobs with the construction
crews, so that they could build the machinery they would one day operate. How's that for dedication. I'll tell you
I know I have been blessed with the best staff I could possible have. We'll be here for a good long time."
